Unternehmensfinanzierung Am Kapitalmarkt In Den Arabischen Staaten from the Author: Carlo Pohlhausen. English summary: Since the privatization of the public sector and the emergence of organized capital markets in the Arab world, the organizational structures and financing models of many Arab corporations have been subject to profound change. Where until recently, the corporate landscape knew only the model of the closed family business and the individual enterprise, more and more Arab companies now offer shares to a wide circle of investors or finance themselves through market-listed bonds. Against this background, Carlo Pohlhausen examines the principles of civil, corporate and capital market law governing corporate finance in the capital markets of Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, putting them into their historical context and analyzing them in both the context of their cultural environment and the findings of research on modern capital markets. In this way, the author establishes a variety of contradictory connections between adopted law, local solutions and the influence of global financial markets and suggests ways of resolving them in accordance with legal realities through more efficient regulation.

Law And Practice Of The United Nations from the Author: Simon Chesterman. Law and Practice of the United Nations: Documents and Commentary combines primary materials with expert commentary demonstrating the interaction between law and practice in the UN organization, as well as the possibilities and limitations of multilateral institutions in general. Each chapter begins with a short introductory essay describing how the documents that ensue illustrate a set of legal, institutional, and political issues relevant to the practice of diplomacy and the development of public international law through the United Nations. Each chapter also includes questions to guide discussion of the primary materials, and a brief bibliography to facilitate further research on the subject. This second edition addresses the most challenging issues confronting the United Nations and the global community today, from terrorism to climate change, from poverty to nuclear proliferation. New features include hypothetical fact scenarios to test the understanding of concepts in each chapter. This edition contains expanded author commentary, while maintaining the focus on primary materials. Such materials enable a realistic presentation of the work of international diplomacy: the negotiation, interpretation and application of such texts are an important part of what actually takes place at the United Nations and other international organizations. This work is ideal for courses on the United Nations or International Organizations, taught in both law and international relations programs.

Oil Shock from the Author: Elisabetta Bini. The ÔÇśOil ShockÔÇÖ of 1973 - the shift from the era of low-priced oil to the era of high-priced oil - was a turning point in the history of the 20th century. This book provides an analysis of the crisis and its global political and economic impact. It features contributions from a range of perspectives and approaches, including political, economic, environmental, international and social history. The authors examine the origins of the 'oil revolution' for oil-producing countries, as well as the far-reaching effects on oil and international energy markets, international relations and the global economy; and the long term effects on the Cold War, Soviet energy policies and decolonization. In doing so, they provide a detailed picture of one of a defining event of the last century, an event that set the framework for the changes that have led to the quite different energy scenario of today.

Islam And Democracy After The Arab Spring from the Author: John L. Esposito. The landscape of the Middle East has changed dramatically since 2011, as have the political arena and the discourse around democracy. In Islam and Democracy after the Arab Spring, John L. Esposito, John Voll, and Tamara Sonn examine the state of democracy in Muslim-majority societies today. Applying a twenty-first century perspective to the question of whether Islam is "compatible" with democracy, they redirect the conversation toward a new politics of democracy that transcends both secular authoritarianism and Political Islam. While the opposition movements of the Arab Spring vary from country to country, each has raised questions regarding equality, economic justice, democratic participation, and the relationship between Islam and democracy in their respective countries. Does democracy require a secular political regime? Are religious movements the most effective opponents of authoritarian secularist regimes? Esposito, Voll, and Sonn examine these questions and shed light on how these opposition movements reflect the new global realities of media communication and sources of influence and power. Positioned for a broad readership of scholars and students, policy-makers, and media experts, Islam and Democracy after the Arab Spring will quickly become a go-to for all who watch the Middle East, inside and outside of academia.
