Service Orchestration As Organization from the Author: Malinda Kapuruge. Service orchestration techniques combine the benefits of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Business Process Management (BPM) to compose and coordinate distributed software services. On the other hand, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) is gaining popularity as a software delivery model through cloud platforms due to the many benefits to software vendors, as well as their customers. Multi-tenancy, which refers to the sharing of a single application instance across multiple customers or user groups (called tenants), is an essential characteristic of the SaaS model. Written in an easy to follow style with discussions supported by real-world examples, Service Orchestration as Organization introduces a novel approach with associated language, framework, and tool support to show how service orchestration techniques can be used to engineer and deploy SaaS applications. Describes the benefits as well as the challenges of building adaptive, multi-tenant software service applications using service-orchestration techniques Provides a thorough synopsis of the current state of the art, including the advantages and drawbacks of the adaptation techniques available Describes in detail how the underlying framework of the new approach has been implemented using available technologies, such as business rules engines and web services

Software Architecture from the Author: Ronald Morrison. The European Conference on Software Architecture (ECSA) is the premier European conference dedicated to the field of software architecture, covering all architectural features of software engineering. It is the follow-up of a successful series of European workshops on software architecture held in the UK in 2004 (Springer LNCS 3047), Italy in 2005 (Springer LNCS 3527), and France in 2006 (Springer LNCS 4344). It evolved into a series of European conferences whose first edition was ECSA 2007, held in Madrid, Spain during September 24–26, 2007 (Springer LNCS 4758). This year’s conference was held at the beautiful Coral Beach Hotel and Resort near Paphos in Cyprus. As with the previous versions of the conference, ECSA 2008 (Springer LNCS 5292) provided an international forum for researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to present innovative research and to discuss a wide range of topics in the area of software architecture. It focused on formalisms, technologies, and processes for describing, verifying, validating, transforming, building, and evolving software systems. Covered topics included architecture modelling, architecture description languages, architectural aspects, architecture analysis, transformation and synthesis, architecture evolution, quality attributes, model-driven engineering, built-in testing and architecture-based support for component-based and service-oriented systems. The conference attracted paper submissions from 29 countries (Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Chile, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, - land, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, the UK, USA, and Venezuela).

Bpm Driving Innovation In A Digital World from the Author: Jan vom Brocke. This book shows how business process management (BPM), as a management discipline at the intersection of IT and Business, can help organizations to master digital innovations and transformations. At the same time, it discusses how BPM needs to be further developed to successfully act as a driver for innovation in a digital world. In recent decades, BPM has proven extremely successful in managing both continuous and radical improvements in many sectors and business areas. While the digital age brings tremendous new opportunities, it also brings the specific challenge of correctly positioning and scoping BPM in organizations. This book shows how to leverage BPM to drive business innovation in the digital age. It brings together the views of the world’s leading experts on BPM and also presents a number of practical cases. It addresses mangers as well as academics who share an interest in digital innovation and business process management. The book covers topics such as BPM and big data, BPM and the Internet of Things, and BPM and social media. While these technological and methodological aspects are key to BPM, process experts are also aware that further nontechnical organizational capabilities are required for successful innovation. The ideas presented in this book have helped us a lot while implementing process innovations in our global Logistics Service Center. Joachim Gantner, Director IT Services, Swarovski AG Managing Processes – everyone talks about it, very few really know how to make it work in today’s agile and competitive world. It is good to see so many leading experts taking on the challenge in this book. Cornelius Clauser, Chief Process Officer, SAP SE This book provides worthwhile readings on new developments in advanced process analytics and process modelling including practical applications – food for thought how to succeed in the digital age. Ralf Diekmann, Head of Business Excellence, Hilti AG This book is as an important step towards process innovation systems. I very much like to congratulate the editors and authors for presenting such an impressive scope of ideas for how to address the challenging, but very rewarding marriage of BPM and innovation. The Role Of Metadata In The Orchestration Of Web Services from the Author: Marlen Krebs. Diploma Thesis from the year 2006 in the subject Computer Science - Software, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Sciences in Schmalkalden, 40 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: “Orchestration is the study and practice of arranging music for an orchestra or musical ensemble. In practical terms it consists of deciding which instruments should play which notes in a piece of music.” [Wiki] In musical terms, the orchestra would be made up of Web services, BPEL would be the sheet music and the business process manager (BPM) would be the composer that selects the necessary Web services and decides how they should interact with each other. Organizations use Web services in two broad categories, Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) and Business-to-Business (B2B) e-commerce as well as less complex scenarios such as technical functions and information services (common services). This thesis provides an insight on how the Web service standards resolve the limitations of conventional middleware and extend the benefits of process management to a wider scope of business problems. Web service standards like SOAP, XML, WSDL, and BPEL enable customers to solve integration problems easily by providing interoperability within a company or across multiple companies and improve B2B eCommerce and supply chain management by shifting to a service-oriented paradigm in application development. Web service orchestration provides an open, standards-base approach to create high-level business processes, such as workflows. This thesis will focus on BPEL for describing the business logic, although competing standards are still in use. The steps for the workflow implementation will be explained on the basis of a sample procurement scenario.
