The Little Red Jacket from the Author: Despoina Ikaris. A true almost Christmas, almost mystery, almost ghost story for children and certain grown-ups about a Great-Aunt's efforts to replace a lost button and mend the buttonholes of a little red jacket she wants to send to her Grandniece for Christmas - and the mysterious incidents which involve, the Great-Aunt believes, the ghostly help of her deceased mother. Despoina Ikaris (Professor Emeritas, CUNY), was born in Greece and grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. She has been a life-long student of Henry James (1843-1916) who believed in ghosts and wrote of them as a concerned force in our life. In November 2004, the button problems of the red jacket she wanted to send to Haworth for Christmas, were, to the world at large, seemingly trivial. They acquire a lasting significance from their eerie resolution by a presence, she is convinced, from another, invisible dimension. As she recorded this matter of the red jacket, the ghost of Henry James was, no doubt, also looking over her shoulder, with - she hopes - his fond, however bemused, approval.

The Red Jacket from the Author: Meredith Kennedy. Six Friends. One Leather Jacket. A Future No One Could Believe. Six high school friends find a vintage red jacket that turns out to be more than it seems. As the friends wear the jacket, it becomes part of their emerging identities, as they all struggle to navigate the treacherous path to adulthood. The red jacket is with them as the six friends experience the pain and passion of first love, while a hurricane of emotions pushes them into the shadowlands of sex, drugs and alcohol. While each one wears the red jacket, it reveals the risks to which they are blind. Yet the friends continue down treacherous paths to unexpected outcomes: drug overdose, unplanned pregnancy, STD, a disastrous fire. Suddenly the friends find that the only strength they have is each other, as their lives spiral out of control to a shocking climax that leaves them all forever changed. Based on true stories, The Red Jacket is a powerful novel of friendship and love, and the nature of making choices in a complex world. About the Author: Meredith Kennedy writes on the dangers of poor choices and the wisdom of looking ahead. She wrote her book after hearing several such stories of life-altering events.I hope to speak to young readers in voices they will appreciate and understand, without having to go through these traumas themselves. She is now writing the sequel. Raised in Michigan, Kennedy moved to Africa, where she has taught in many countries; she now lives in Zanzibar. Publisher's website: http: //

Red Jacket from the Author: Christopher Densmore. In the first modern biography of Red jacket, Christopher Densmore sheds light on the achievements of this formidable Iroquois diplomat who, as a representative of the Seneca and Six Nations, met and negotiated with American presidents from George Washington to Andrew Jackson. The political career of Red Jacket (1758-1830) began just before the American Revolution, when both the Americans and the British sought the alliance of the powerful Iroquois Confederacy. By the 1790s, Red Jacket was frequently the diplomat chosen by the Seneca Nation and the Iroquois Confederacy to represent them in councils and treaty negotiations between the United States, the British in Canada, and the Indian nations of the Ohio Country. Red Jacket spoke eloquently against the sale of Indian lands, against the encroachment of the white man’s religion and culture, and in defense of Indian sovereignty. His speeches were widely known in his own lifetime and continue to be reprinted.
