The Last Entry from the Author: William Clark Russell. Unlike many other writers of nautical action-adventure, William Clark Russell often added a layer of psychological and existential terror to his tales of heroism and happenstance on the high seas, reflecting the rigors of long stretches of isolation in trying conditions. His novel The Last Entry is a thrilling blend of pulse-pounding plot twists and gradually increasing suspense.

The Last Entry from the Author: Teri MacIntosh. When her father mysteriously disappears, twelve-year-old Bethany Henderson pours her feelings into her journal...including a heartfelt imagining of his return. One year later, Mr. Henderson returns-a homecoming identical to Bethany's diary entry. Bethany's journal, it seems, has the ability to alter reality. On the night her father returns she learns that his disappearance has something to do with his past, but her parents won't tell her why. Now at twenty-three, her obsession with her journal and her parents' secret lead her to leave the suburbs and beaches of San Diego by train to a small town in Illinois where something terrible must have happened twenty years ago. On the train she must relive her life through her journal entries hoping to uncover the mysteries. But when she arrives in Willow Grove, Bethany has no idea that her father's past will collide with her present. Terrified, she's held captive in the basement of an old house, but this time she doesn't have her journal to save her. A vivid young adult fantasy containing touches of romance and a deeply buried family mystery, The Last Entry is reminiscent of Alice Sebold's The Lovely Bones and Janet Fitch's White Oleander.

Network Reliability from the Author: Sanjay K. Chaturvedi. In Engineering theory and applications, we think and operate in terms of logics and models with some acceptable and reasonable assumptions. The present text is aimed at providing modelling and analysis techniques for the evaluation of reliability measures (2-terminal, all-terminal, k-terminal reliability) for systems whose structure can be described in the form of a probabilistic graph. Among the several approaches of network reliability evaluation, the multiple-variable-inversion sum-of-disjoint product approach finds a well-deserved niche as it provides the reliability or unreliability expression in a most efficient and compact manner. However, it does require an efficiently enumerated minimal inputs (minimal path, spanning tree, minimal k-trees, minimal cut, minimal global-cut, minimal k-cut) depending on the desired reliability. The present book covers these two aspects in detail through the descriptions of several algorithms devised by the ‘reliability fraternity’ and explained through solved examples to obtain and evaluate 2-terminal, k-terminal and all-terminal network reliability/unreliability measures and could be its USP. The accompanying web-based supplementary information containing modifiable Matlab® source code for the algorithms is another feature of this book. A very concerted effort has been made to keep the book ideally suitable for first course or even for a novice stepping into the area of network reliability. The mathematical treatment is kept as minimal as possible with an assumption on the readers’ side that they have basic knowledge in graph theory, probabilities laws, Boolean laws and set theory.

Combinatorics Of Permutations Second Edition from the Author: Miklos Bona. A Unified Account of Permutations in Modern Combinatorics A 2006 CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title, the first edition of this bestseller was lauded for its detailed yet engaging treatment of permutations. Providing more than enough material for a one-semester course, Combinatorics of Permutations, Second Edition continues to clearly show the usefulness of this subject for both students and researchers and is recommended for undergraduate libraries by the MAA. Expanded Chapters Much of the book has been significantly revised and extended. This edition includes a new section on alternating permutations and new material on multivariate applications of the exponential formula. It also discusses several important results in pattern avoidance as well as the concept of asymptotically normal distributions. New Chapter An entirely new chapter focuses on three sorting algorithms from molecular biology. This emerging area of combinatorics is known for its easily stated and extremely difficult problems, which sometimes can be solved using deep techniques from seemingly remote branches of mathematics. Additional Exercises and Problems All chapters in the second edition have more exercises and problems. Exercises are marked according to level of difficulty and many of the problems encompass results from the last eight years.
