The Focus Model from the Author: B.R. Jones. With school improvement initiatives, quality trumps quantity every time. This book solves the growing problem of schools implementing too many improvement strategies at once instead of deep focus on the most critical few. B.R. Jones’s method details: Selecting critical standards—Defining the skills your students most need now. Uncovering the essentials—Choosing your initiatives based on a deconstruction of the standards and targeted definitions of how they will enrich students. Critical formative analysis of students—Analyzing student work to measure the strategy’s effectiveness. Critical learning teams—Collaborating with colleagues so everyone can make better decisions.

Accelerator And Final Focus Model For An Induction Linac Based Hif System Study from the Author: . An overview of the assumptions and models incorporated in the ongoing Induction-Linac-based, HIF System Assessment is presented. Final transport, compression and final focus pose constraints which form a critical link between the accelerator and target requirements. A recent analysis has shown that system costs may be considerably reduced by the use of multiply charges ions. The assumptions underlying this direction are described.

A Final Focus Model For Heavy Ion Fusion Driver System Codes from the Author: . The need to reach high temperatures in an inertial fusion energy (IFE) target (or a target for the study of High Energy Density Physics, HEDP) requires the ability to focus ion beams down to a small spot. System models indicate that within the accelerator, the beam radius will be of order centimeters, whereas at the final focal spot on the target, a beam radius of order millimeters is required, so radial compression factors of order ten are required. The IFE target gain (and hence the overall cost of electricity) and the HEDP target temperature are sensitive functions of the final spot radius on target. Because of this sensitivity, careful attention needs to be paid to the spot radius calculation. We review our current understanding of the elements that enter into a systems model (such as emittance growth from chromatic, geometric, and non-linear space charge forces) for the final focus based on a quadrupolar magnet system.

Focus And Secondary Predication from the Author: Susanne Winkler. The architecture of the human language faculty has been one of the main foci of the linguistic research of the last half century. This branch of linguistics, broadly known as Generative Grammar, is concerned with the formulation of explanatory formal accounts of linguistic phenomena with the ulterior goal of gaining insight into the properties of the 'language organ'. The series comprises high quality monographs and collected volumes that address such issues. The topics in this series range from phonology to semantics, from syntax to information structure, from mathematical linguistics to studies of the lexicon.

From Model To Algebra from the Author: Dr Yeap Ban Har. Algebra is fundamental in the learning of mathematics. In Singapore, students begin the learning of formal algebra in primary six (Singapore Ministry of Education, 2006a). In secondary school, algebra features prominently in the curriculum (Singapore Ministry of Education, 2006b). Prior to learning formal algebra, primary school students use the model method as one of the methods to solve word problems. The model method is one of the most recognised features of the Singapore mathematics curriculum (Singapore Ministry of Education, 2009). It has been found that the model method has allowed primary school students without access to formal algebra a means to represent and solve algebraic word problems (Ng & Lee, 2009). Research has indicated that students encounter a variety of difficulties in formal algebra. These include understanding the meaning of letters used in formal algebra (Kuchemann, 1981) and translating information in text into algebraic equations (e.g. Stacey & MacGregor, 2000). The use of concrete and pictorial representations has been found to help students in solving word problems (e.g. Lewis, 1989; Willis & Fuson, 1988). While the model method has helped students solve word problems using pictorial representations, such representations are seldom harnessed for beginning students in formal algebra to acquire skills in algebraic manipulation. This book aims to do the latter. There has been much evidence that the model method can be integrated with the algebraic method (Kho, 1987, 2005, 2007; Beckmann, 2004). Secondary school teachers have been trained to show the relationship between the model method and the algebraic method (Kho, 2007). This book fleshes out this approach using topics in lower secondary algebra. This book focuses on helping students develop a strong foundation in algebraic manipulation. Basic algebraic manipulations including writing, evaluating, expanding, simplifying, and factorising algebraic expressions and solving algebraic equations are introduced pictorially. While it is not the intention that students to always rely on pictorial representations when doing algebra, the model method serves as a good starting point for students to learn algebraic manipulation meaningfully. It is hoped that this book will provide teachers with a resource to help students make the transition from the model method to formal algebra. As for students who find formal algebra daunting, this book serves as a bridge.

The Model Marriage Focus On The Family Marriage Series from the Author: Focus on the Family. The More You Give in Love . . . The More You Live in Love Jesus modeled real love for His people on earth, leaving an example of self-sacrifice like none other. In The Model Marriage, consider the roles of courage, strength, and nobility in a healthy marriage; uncover the mysterious power in that sticky word: submission; learn what it means to display a selfless spirit in marriage; and understand why you are called to love like Jesus in your relationship with each other. This study contains four sessions, each with four main components: Tilling the Ground Planting the Seed Watering the Hope Harvesting the Fruit Marriage is about discovering that deep joy comes from following Jesus' example of loving another . . . with a sacrificial love. "We often hear that the institution of marriage is suffering. But there is good news, too! By submitting their relationships to God and seeking out the right resources, married couples can know what it means to truly thrive. That's what Focus on the Family's Marriage Series is all about. Whether you're in a small group, a mentoring relationship, or you just want to study as a couple, this series can transform your marriage for the better."--Jim Daly, President, Focus on the Family "Marriage is an amazing adventure--filled with excitement, joy, and challenges. Focus on the Family's Marriage Series examines God's gift of marriage in all of its wonderful dimensions. I consider it a privilege to be involved with this important set of relationship-strengthening resources."--Dr. Greg Smalley, Vice President, Family Ministries, Focus on the Family
