Fifty Years Of The Deltics from the Author: Gavin Morrison. Faced by the necessity of replacing its classic Pacific-type steam locomotives on the East Coast main line, British Railways constructed the 22-strong Deltic class. Developed from the prototype DP1 and now preserved as part of the National Collection, the class derived its nickname from the use of the Napier Deltic diesel engine. Initially allocated to three depots, the locomotives proved to be highly successful on the East Coast express services for which they were designed. However, as a small class, the cost in maintenance was such that, when the replacement InterCity 125s were introduced, the decision was taken to withdraw the class. In later years, the class also saw operation on services between Liverpool and Newcastle. The entire class was taken out of service between January 1980 and January 1982 with six of the class eventually being preserved. This brand new all-color album celebrates fifty years of the Deltic type.

Fifty Years Of Illustration from the Author: Lawrence Zeegan. This book charts contemporary illustration's rich history: from the rampant idealism of the 1960s to the bleak realism of the 1970s, and from the over-blown consumerism of the 1980s to the digital explosion of the 1990s, followed by the increasing diversification of illustration in the early twenty-first century. The book explores the contexts in which the discipline has operated and looks historically, sociologically, politically, and culturally at the key factors at play across each decade, while artworks by key illustrators bring the decade to life. Contemporary illustration's impact and influence on design and popular culture are investigated through introductory essays and profiles of leading practitioners, illustrated with examples of the finest work.
