Come The Vintage from the Author: Anne Mather. Her situation was impossible, Ryan realized, more impossible than even Alain could imagine. What had he said? "We are married, Ryan. I suggest we attempt to salvage something from the wreck." But friendship was something she and Alain could never share, and she shrank from his pity. If all he could offer was friendship for appearances' sake, there was no future for either of them.

John Calvin S Commentaries On The Book Of Hosea Annotated Edition from the Author: John Calvin. This is the extended and annotated edition including * an extensive biographical annotation about the author and his life Calvin produced commentaries on most of the books of the Bible. His commentaries cover the larger part of the Old Testament, and all of the new excepting Second and Third John and the Apocalypse. His commentaries and lectures stand in the front rank of Biblical interpretation. This book embraces the most difficult portion, in some respects, of THE OLD TESTAMENT, and of that portion, as acknowledged by all, the most difficult is THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET HOSEA. Probably no part of Scripture is commonly read with so little benefit as THE MINOR PROPHETS, owing, no doubt, to the obscurity in which some parts are involved. That there is much light thrown on many abstruse passages in this Work, and more than by any existing Comment in our language, is the full conviction of the writer. Acute, sagacious, and sometimes profound, the Author is at the same time remarkably simple, plain, and lucid, and ever practical and useful. The most learned may here gather instruction, and the most unlearned may understand almost every thing that is said. The whole object of the Author seems to be to explain, simplify, and illustrate the text, and he never turns aside to other matters. He is throughout an Expounder, keeps strictly to his office, and gives to every part its full and legitimate meaning according to the context, to which he ever especially attends.

The State To Come from the Author: Will Hutton. The forthcoming General Election will be one of the most decisive in British post-war history. If the Conservatives were to win again, it would confirm that British democracy is a sham - that we live in a one party state and the electorate will exact no penalty for broken promises and the abuse of power. Will Hutton argues that the tories can no longer be trusted: the recent economic `growth' is little more than a catch-up from the lost recession years, while investment is still weak and inflation high; Black Wednesday revealed the Goverments economic incompetence; and taxes have risen by a record in post-war Britain. Tony Blair has skilfully exploited the Tory divisions and successfully remodelled his party: New Labour is reformist, committed to social justice, solidarity and achievable levels of equality. The years of Tory Goverment have revealed the shortcomings of a free-market economy: a big shift of economic power to the employers and a sharp rise in in equality. Will Hutton urges Labour not to embrace a Conservative agenda in economic terms but to deal with the challenge of structuring the free-market economy to get the best balance of growth and a good society, and to make fundemental choices over the character of the capitalism we want to develop.
